Lodging Tax Advisory Committee

The City of Buckley collects lodging excise tax per RCW. 67.28. These taxes are used to support programs that increase tourism in Buckley. Per the RCW, cities with a population greater than 5,000 are required to create a Lodging Tax Advisory Committee and application process for the use of the lodging tax funds. The Lodging Tax Advisory Committee has the authority to recommend lodging tax matters to the City Council.

On May 23, 2023, Council approved Ordinance 12-23 to create a lodging tax advisory committee.

The membership of the Lodging Tax Advisory Committee shall consist of five voting members:

  1. A council member who shall serve as Chair of the LTAC per RCW 67.28.1817(1).
  2. Two representatives of businesses required to collect tax (hotel, motel, short-term rentals)
  3. Two representatives involved in activities authorized to be funded

Members of the LTAC shall be selected by the Mayor and confirmed by the City Council for appointment.

The term for membership is January 1 (or when first appointed)- December 31st.

The City shall review membership of LTAC annually and make changes as appropriate.

The LTAC has not set the meeting days/time. Once formed, the City must advertise applications for Lodging tax funds. The first meeting will likely occur in the fall of 2023 to evaluate projects for funding in 2024.

The first review of applications will occur on July 5, 2023.
